Two of the biggest names in industrial design, Jony Ive and Marc Newson, previously came together to design a one-off Leica camera which eventually sold at auction for $1.8m.
Up for sale at the forthcoming Leitz Photographica Auction is a final stage prototype of that Leica M camera featuring a Apo-Summicron 2/50 mm ASPH lens.
Development saw 1000 prototype parts and more than 725 hours of manufacturing time consume the project.
The Leitz Photographica Auction house estimates the prototype camera will fetch between €200.000 – 250.000 EUR ($309,961 – $387,451 AUD / $238,580 – $298,225 USD), a fraction of the final one-off.
So who’s going to bid the highest? Leica, Apple, or Newson collectors?
