It was inevitable. Car manufacturers, especially Porsche and BMW, love to create a limited edition based off an anniversary of the original and this year that means we have the Porsche Boxster 25 Years.
Based on the much lauded Boxster GTS with the 4.0-litre six-cylinder engine producing 294 kW (400 PS), it will be limited to just 1,250 units worldwide. As this is celebrating the original Boxster, there are a number of references to it starting off with the colour. The new car can be chosen in GT Silver Metallic, Deep Black Metallic or Carrara White Metallic with the reinterpreted colour Neodyme, which is said to be a “copper-like shimmering brown”, on key parts such as the front apron, the side air intakes with mono bar, lettering, and the two-tone 20-inch alloy wheels.
What do you think of the wheel design? It seems quite a departure from wheels designs we’ve seen from Porsche over the years, seemingly with no real influence. They do look a tad “aftermarket” in a way, if a little reminiscent of Rays TE37s.
One of the most striking features of the original show car was its contrasting red interior, and the 25 Years model gets this as well, with Bordeaux leather and a red fabric convertible top with 25 Years lettering although the interior and top can be specced in black.
There are some interior features included which raise the game a little over the standard Boxster such as the Aluminium spec, 14-way electrically adjustable sports seats, door sill trims with “Boxster 25″ lettering and the heated GT multifunction sports leather steering wheel.
Praise be to Ferdinand that the Boxster 25 Years is offered in both manual and PDK.
Also standard is Porsche Active Suspension Management sports suspension (PASM), which also drops the car 10 millimetres lower, and Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with mechanical limited-slip differential. Expect lots of slidey action from your favourite Youtube car channels.
Expect a 30 Jahre model in 5 years time and another in 10 years after that, and so on and so forth. Not that we’re complaining!
