Walking through high streets, back streets, and alleyways in Japan what strikes you eventually if not immediately is the way Japanese take absolute pride in their store presentation from outside to in and of course extending to customer service.
I’m yet to come across a store as well curated with automotive clothing, gear, paraphernalia, collectibles, and pretty much anything else you can think of than Tokyo’s Le Garage. From what I can tell, California’s Period Correct has a lovely space for auto enthusiasts but I’m yet to visit in person.
Le Garage is situated in Roppongi, a district known for its exuberant nightlife which is fast becoming a place for wealthy inhabitants as the neighbourhood sheds its wild past. You’d be forgiven for walking straight past Le Garage as it shares space with other design-led businesses in an unassuming location off the street.
But venture towards the entrance and you’re greeted with a wonderful store display or promotion. At the time Le Garage were exhibiting insights into the glove making process along with consultations, which was wonderfully curated. This was my third time in Japan and every time I’ve visited Le Garage, there’s been something new going on.
Luxury brands like Chapal have plenty of visibility alongside Negroni shoes and Grand Prix Originals, the whole store just dripping with quality items. It’s hard not to find something you’ll want to buy, and if you’re like me you’ll eventually end up talking yourself into something.
The only thing missing is parking for clients directly in front as I’d love to see what the guy buying the $4,000 jacket was driving.
If you’re in Tokyo, it’s highly recommended you visit Le Garage and pick yourself up something, and you never know what will be on display.
