Bugatti have been busy lately collaborating with lifestyle brands like Tidal Audio, and now they’ve continued their collaboration with Jacob & Co to build upon their Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon with four new limited edition timepieces.
We all know how incredible the Chiron is and the clientele it attracts so it’s only fitting that a timepiece representing that particular end of the market (read: top) should be something elaborate.
The Bugatti 8.0-litre W16 engine is the heart of the Chiron and it’s here where the timepiece draws its inspiration. With 578 components going into making the movement, just as intricate is the engine block sitting under a huge sapphire crystal with the flying tourbillon movement, inclined at 30 degrees.
Pressing the right-hand crown of the timepiece engages the solid steel “crankshaft” which in turn activates the complex arrangement of pistons to pump up and down while a pair of “turbochargers” on the side of the engine block spin away.
The entire movement is held in place via Chiron style shock absorbers. The watch designers actually created a patent of a unique automotive-inspired transverse system to ensure the crown posts aren’t damaged by movement within the case.
The left crown sets the time while the middle crown winds the movement and animation with 60 hours of power reserve yet independently of one another: clockwise for the movement (60 hours), counterclockwise for the engine animation (approximately three activations). The power reserve level utilises a gas pump symbol on the side of the gauge.
The Chiron is no shrining violet and neither is the watch, or rather watches. There are four editions to choose from. The first uses a solid block of sapphire crystal with a sapphire crystal caseback, using sapphire crystal for the crowns and pushers, with the band made of a rubber strap with a titanium buckle clasp.
The second edition is limited to 72 pieces featuring an 18-karat Rose Gold case with a special anti-reflective sapphire crystal, an 18-karat Rose Gold open caseback and black DLC titanium crowns and pushers embossed with the Bugatti logo. The band is also a rubber strap but with a black DLC titanium and 18-karat Rose Gold buckle clasp.
The next is even more limited, this time only 52 pieces will be made. This time the case made of 18-karat Rose Gold set with white diamonds, an anti-reflective sapphire crystal, plus an 18-karat Rose Gold open caseback and crowns and pushers made of 18-karat Rose Gold and set with baguette white diamonds embossed with the Bugatti logo. Also secured by a rubber strap it features an 18-karat Rose Gold buckle clasp decorated with white diamonds.
The fourth edition uses a case made of 18-karat White Gold set with 391 black and white diamonds (approximately 20 carats). The 18-karat White Gold open caseback is matched by crowns and pushers set with baguette white diamonds. The rubber strap is used with an 18-karat White Gold buckle clasp set with 18 white diamonds (approximately 1.76 carats).
